Honoring the Waters

Document Actions
Rev. Charla Hermann is actively praying for our planet. On the land at Hawkwind, she oversees ceremonial lodges, quest camps and several outreach programs for children and young women. Charla works closely with the Grandmothers and the Grandfathers of many native peoples. In this article, she honors the waters and offers perspective. Here she shares some insights, practices and resources of what we can do to care for the waters.

As you read this, there are ceremonies, rituals and water clean up going on all around the world.  In a recent meeting at the Civil Rights Institute, we were advised that if we are not all much more attentive to the waters, it is only a matter of time, until we are in water ration mode. We were admonished that due to pollution and shortages, it was only a matter of time until water trucks could be hijacked in this country. Our job as earthkeepers is to avert this measure and restore the waters to the healing state in which they once flowed. Remember, Water Was And Remains Our Most Powerful Healing Medicine.

Right now, as we are moving through critical Earth Change times, there are many resources available to us. Prayer with honorable intention is certainly at the top of my list.  Elders of many nations are asking that we all work with our Sacred Altars to assist the healing crisis we are all facing. Praying for The Earth, water, fire, air and the spirit of all our relations is the voice and call of our time.

One of the key elements, and natural resources, that needs our attention, is the element of water. For years we have been asked to gather the waters in natural places where ever we go and add it to the center of our water vessel.  We then place a crystal in it and attune the waters of all nations.

With each cycle of the moon we gently stir and pray over those waters to clear them of toxin and disease. We make offerings at the shores of every place of water that we find.

Lakota Grandmother's encourage us to put out a tea cup half filled with water and a piece of bread for the water spirits, when the big storms come. We add our prayer ties to that platter and pray for compassion to all living beings in this transformational process.

It was not just human life that was lost in last week storms. Let us remember the waters. The waters also need our healing energy. Knowing that the water ultimately feeds the people, and all creatures, praying for the water, has a trickle down effect of praying for the people. Right now, what could you do?

All of those earthie recommendations, like turning off the water while you brush your teeth, to If It's Yellow Let It Mellow, If It's Brown Flush It Down, mottos, are important as a life style change right now. Using water to wash cars, water lawns, and fill swimming pools may become a huge issue in years to come.

In hopes to make the world a better place to live, our circle is sharing information on water rituals and trading them with circles world wide, in order to do our part to avert more crisis than we are already facing.

May we honor that we are all related and support one another in this season of change that tugs at our hearts and our commitments to be here now, as a catalyst for change and co-creator of solutions.

Many Blessings
Rev. Charla Hermann
