Navigation Tools for Soul Fire Inside

Up one level
Here you will find some basic information about how we do things at Soul Fire Inside. The most basic thing we ask is that you engage and play with us. Make space for art to emerge. A chant or a poem can easily rise out of the silence and sacred space we co-create and share with each other...
Navigation Tools for Soul Fire Inside Driving From The Back Of The Bus, by Mz imani
At Soul Fire Inside (DC) and CoSM Full Moon Drum and Dance (NYC)and at our all night fire circles, we encourage driving from the back of the bus. we pour a lot of intention and attention to setting up the space so that when folks walk in, a tangibly different reality exists. While we dont often talk about this, we consciously hold space for harmony to occur in our sonic expressions, ideally allowing and perpetuating these expressions to be varied and fluid.

Soul Fire Inside is very different from a drum circle. While drumming is a big part of what we do each month, it is only a tiny part of how we play. In our circle, we honor all those who came before us and those who will follow us. We respect the boundaries between traditional and improvisational drumming. We welcome all spiritual paths. We honor that as humans, we have more in common than not. At the SFI, the improvisational drumming we do is open to all levels. and we especially like it when we gather as a community to seek excellence, or enlightened anarchy, as our friend Billy Woods says.

One of the ways shamanic cultures have accessed trance is through dance and movement. Movement and dance can draw our attention inward to our bodies and our hearts. At Soul Fire Inside, we hold the intention to be mindful of how we move through the night, both individually and as a community, and we invite you to do the same.
